The Memorial Day event includes a Sunday evening salute to our heroes at the Hartland History Burying Ground (or cemetery) on Hartland Road, across from the Cromaine Library. At 6 pm, the students of this year's Grand Marshal Paul Scheidler History Club will again dress in period costume and represent the "residents" of the cemetery. You come, you walk around the cemetery, you talk with these historic figures. The cemetery has a burial from the Revolutionary War, recently identified War of 1812 soldiers, and those who served in every war since then. For a small cemetery, it is very rich in history. At 7:00 pm on Sunday, a memorial service begins. Thanks to the Girl Scouts who won a Hartland SOUP prize, the veterans monument and area have been greatly spruced up. It is a very meaningful experience and I highly recommend it to all. At 9:00 pm, the service concludes with the playing of Taps.
Parade starts from the Middle School at Ore Creek on Hartland Road. It is about a mile long route, heading north on Hartland Road, east on School Street, south on Washington Street, then east again on Maple/Hibner Road. The parade ends at Village Elementary.
